Tailgate View From Northwest

Circling above the sports complex 1500 feet above the ground at around 5:30pm, we captured several shots of the worlds largest tailgate from different directions. The resulting cropped images offer a variety of aspect ratios if you have a specific wallspace you are looking to fill. 500 feet below us were three banner towing aircraft also circling the tailgate. You can catch a plane or two in some of the images.

Circling the stadium during the pre-game activities, we ended up in perfect position to catch the team starting their run out of the tunnel with the smoke machine going strong and fireworks booming.

First Touchdown Of The Season

This was definitely the result of being in the right place at the right time. We happened to be in great position when Patrick Mahomes threw his touchdown pass to Rashee Rice, which set off stadium fireworks and started a celebration that can be seen in the Jumbotron. A donated framed 20x20 inch print of this image was the highest bid item at the 2023 Road To Home Gala silent charity auction. Congratulations to Foster Adopt Connect for their successful event!

KICKOFF GAME TAILGATE
SEPTEMBER 7, 2023

Getting this shot of Chiefs Kingdom assembling for a banner-raising kickoff game was filled with hurdles. If late afternoon lighting on a very hazy day wasn't bad enough, Air Traffic Control needed us to be up at 8500 feet above the ground in order to stay out of the way of all the airplanes flying into Downtown Airport for the game. Shooting through that much haze in low light is any photographers nightmare, but a high-end digital camera (and extensive post-processing) gave us the opportunity to capture what very few, if anyone else, did. You are probably in this image, since it seems like everyone in the KC Metro was there.

Auto Salvage Yard

Somewhere between Allen County and Johnson County we scouted out this salvage yard and maneuvered to the perfect altitude to capture the entire field of colorful cars under fantastic lighting. This one has to be printed BIG to get the full benefit of all the detail in the image. Maybe a great gift for a gearhead, or anyone that likes counting cars.

CHRISTOPHER S BOND BRIDGE

aka New Paseo Bridge

This dual-span cable-stayed bridge has been a favorite to marvel at while driving, given the simple but elegant way the cables reach down through the unassuming concrete pylon towering over 300 feet in the air. We wanted to get a new perspective from 1000 feet in the air. With the aerial camera pointed down through the belly hole we were able to get a shot off just as we passed directly overhead. The sun chooses to favor the north side of the river, allowing shadows to play in only half of this image.

Evening Game

Low light conditions in the eary evening can make for some interesting photography. Adding a fully lit stadium to the mix can turn interesting into mezmerizing. With Kauffman stadium lit up for a game and Arrowhead left empty in the dark this shot presents a beautiful juxtaposition of overexposed and underexposed venues.
